About Us

Our Beginnings

In 2023, Pastors Mark and Sherry Adams from Fusion Church sensed a call to establish an independent Christian school in West Edmonton. Drawing on their 35 years of pastoral experience, plus Sherry’s eight years as a public-school trustee and Mark’s Ph.D. in church government, there came an open door to begin an exceptional school that would accentuate the unique gifting and calling of every student. Inspired by the non-traditional Acton Academy method of education, Fusion Christian Academy is a K-6 school like no other in Alberta. Discover the open door that God has for your child at FCA.

Our Mission

To establish a distinctively Christian school that provides a learner-driven environment which identifies and nurtures every student’s unique and divine calling in the world utilising the Moral Intelligence and Acton models of learning.

Our Principles

Our principles serve as our guiding posts, anchoring us in what we value most.

  • Identify and nurture every student’s unique and divine calling in the world.

  • Affirm a consistent Christian worldview grounded in Biblical values.

  • Create a love for learning.

  • Instill the moral virtues of empathy, conscience, self-control, respect, kindness, tolerance and fairness.

  • Demonstrate and involve students in healthy community relationships.

  • Promote individual mastery of subject matters.

  • Accentuate Socratic discussions to develop critical thinking

  • Apply team-based Discovery Project learning.

  • Consistently identify real-world heroes to emulate.

  • Provide apprenticeships to help discover gifting, passion and calling (future jr. high and high school).

  • Emphasize peer accountability.

  • Establish a culture of creativity, independence and freedom.

  • Conduct a yearly children’s business fair where children market their own goods and services.

The Acton Model

Education delivery at Fusion Christian Academy is based on the Acton Academy model where individualized learning and mastery of core subjects is emphasized in a mixed-grade studio with daily group Socratic discussions and group quest projects.

Our Kindergarten

Our kindergarten emphasizes multi-sensory learning fueled by natural curiosity. The goal is to foster a passion for learning. Our goal is to create literacy and numeracy skills; preparing students for entrance into our elementary studio.

Moral Intelligence

At Fusion Christian Academy, we are intentional about instilling the seven moral virtues identified by Dr. Michelle Borba in her landmark book, Building Moral Intelligence.

The seven moral virtues are:

  • Empathy

  • Conscience

  • Self-control

  • Respect

  • Kindness

  • Tolerance

  • Fairness

Our Distinctives

Our six distinctives define what makes us unique and guide the direction of Fusion Christian Academy.

  • When you come to Fusion Christian Academy, you won’t find students in rows of desks with a teacher at the front disseminating information in a traditional classroom setting. Fusion Christian Academy is a learner driven school, based on the Acton Academy model, where mornings are devoted to individualized learning

  • At FCA we utilize a mixed-age studio where students learn how to help each other with their individualized learning, work together on afternoon Discovery projects, take responsibility for establishing an inclusive community and learn healthy conflict resolution.

  • At FCA we are very intentional about instilling these seven foundational character virtues: empathy, conscience, self-control, respect, kindness, tolerance and fairness.

  • Fusion Christian Academy is distinctly Christian in its biblical worldview with daily “faith encounters”
where we impart biblical knowledge and nurture an experiential knowledge of Jesus.

  • The FCA calendar is divided into five-week segments where, every afternoon, students work together on a Discovery Project (science, art/music/drama, history, creative writing…). At the end of the five weeks, students make a public presentation of their Discovery Project.

  • Every student is on a “hero’s journey” to help to discover their unique and divine calling in the world. Real-life historical, modern and personally-known heroes are continually drawn upon for inspiration.
